How much is my old book is worth?
We cannot appraise books online through email inquiries.
Midwest Antiquarian Booksellers Association (MWABA), is a non-profit organization of book dealers, and as such does not appraise, purchase, or sell books, however many of our members would be qualified to assist you with your book needs.
Many different factors must be taken into account when appraising books. Edition is most important, and the presence or absence of a dust jacket greatly affects the value of a book. Overall book condition is also very important. Very special or unique bindings, regardless of edition, are sometimes collectible. So, it is impossible to accurately determine value or rarity without actually seeing your book.
A good resource on rare book valuation can be found at the web site of the Association of College and Research Libraries, Rare Books and Manuscripts Section. Your Old Books is an excellent primer.
Most of our members are in the Midwestern states, but a few are elsewhere. Should you wish to contact one of our members with questions regarding your books please search our Online Membership Directory or click on the “Directory” link in the navigation bar to find a dealer near you and contact them.
How do I exhibit at one of your book fairs?
If you are a book dealer seeking information about how to participate in the Chicago Book & Paper Fair, please contact the Chicago Book Fair Manager. If you’re interested in exhibiting at the Twin Cities Antiquarian & Rare Book Fair, please contact the Twin Cities Book Fair Manager.
How do I become a member of Midwest Antiquarian Booksellers Association?
Midwest Antiquarian Booksellers Association (MWABA) welcomes new members. You must be located in the Midwestern states, and be recommended by three current members of our organization who are somewhat familiar with your business. You may check our Online Membership Directory to find the names of member/dealers whom you might know. Visit the Membership Page to learn more.
Because the Board of MWABA only meets twice a year, the membership process sometimes takes a while to complete. So, to receive the benefits of membership, which include discounted booth fees and priority preference for member/exhibitors at our book fairs, you should submit your membership application as soon as possible.
How do I get on your mailing list?
MWABA sponsors book fairs in Minnesota in the summer and in Chicago in the Fall. If you would like your name added to our general mailing list to receive announcements about our upcoming book fairs, please complete the form below:
